Thinking of joining Tain Rifle & Pistol Club

Here’s everything you need to know before applying.

 

Important Notice

Before completing any forms, please read Section 21 of the Firearms Act. This applies to all applicants, whether you hold a Firearms Certificate (FAC) or are completely new.

 

Application Process

If You Hold a Firearms Certificate (FAC)

  • Complete the Application for Membership Form (FAC Holders Only).
  • Serve a 3-month probationary period with a minimum of 6 visits.
  • During probation, you may use your own firearms but only under supervision of a full club member or RSO.
  • At the end of probation, you must pass a Final Safety Assessment.
  • Membership is subject to approval by the Board of Directors.
  • If you have never belonged to a gun club, provide two referees who have known you for at least 5 years.
  • If you are sponsored by a full club member who has known you for 5+ years, referees are not required.
  • Your sponsor will be responsible for you throughout training.

If You Do Not Hold a Firearms Certificate (FAC)

  • You must be old enough to apply for a FAC.
  • Complete a 3-month probationary period (minimum of 6 visits).
  • The club will provide:
    • Firearms for training
    • Ear and eye protection (mandatory on all ranges)
  • You will be assigned a full club member as your trainer.
  • After training, you will take a Final Firearms Safety Assessment.
  • On approval from your trainer/sponsor, the Police Firearms Licensing Authority, and the Board of Directors, you will be offered full membership.
  • Once approved, you will receive a club key and gate code.

 

Training & Safety

  • All probationary members must complete firearm safety training.
  • Assessments are carried out by qualified NRA/NSRA instructors.
  • During probation, please read:
    • Range Orders
    • Safety Briefings & Risk Assessments
    • Club By-laws and Articles of Association
  • Eye and ear protection are mandatory at all firing points.
  • If unsure about anything – ask a member. Everyone is happy to help.

 

Membership Options (from 1 Jan 2025)

  • Full Membership – £110.00
  • Senior Membership (65+) – £100.00
  • Family Membership – £140.00
    • For 2 adults (18+) living at the same address
    • Both must complete the Firearms Safety Course

 

Fees & Charges

  • Joining Fee: £10 (payable when submitting forms)
  • Training & Safety Fee: £10 per visit during your 6-visit probation
    • Can be paid in advance or on the day
  • All fees are non-refundable
